I went to the Adrian Belew Power Trio show at BB Kings NYC on Friday night. After the show, Adrian and his band autographed my ticket!!! He is a guitarist/vocalist for King Crimson; and he has also played guitar for Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, Herbie Hancock, Crash Test Dummies, Tom Tom Club, and lots of other artists. His skill as a musician is on the level of someone like Buckethead. By that I mean that both of their styles are wide and varied, they are technically able to play anything, and both are very experimental. They are amazing to watch while playing, because you never know what to expect from them. You can't just sit back and passively watch them. These are the kinds of musicians that engage your whole being, and keep you on your toes as an active listener. They can both play soothing ambient prog-rock on one song, then seamlessly switch to 70's classic rock, then to a soft ballad, then to blazing heavy metal, then jump right back to meditative soothing music, without missing a note. It just blows my mind that one person can play all those styles in one setting - and play them so well - that the audience becomes sucked right into the cadence of their sub-conscious-psyche's neural dimensions. It's as if player and audience merge into one rhythm. Good music truly is the opening to the portal to the other side. It is the door to eternity. 2009-08-27 . Sorry no offense intended to anyone. Music just means more to me than politics. For as long as I can remember, whenever I hear the word Kennedy, I am reminded of DK. And I've been hearing the word Kennedy a lot lately. So there you have it. 2009-08-23 2009-08-22 2009-08-21 2009-08-14 I think that the song "ROOSTER" by Alice in Chains is a good place to start. 2009-08-14 2009-08-14 2009-08-11 It's summertime and in the low 90's. I can't say that I enjoy NYC streets when they smell like a vat of piss and vomit. But before you label me an NYC hater, know that I realize some people might like the smell of piss and vomit. Just wait until it gets into the high 90's! 2009-07-29 Someday I will have children. I think that I will name the first one Fariba - after this woman. "Earlier this year, Fariba Kamalabadi noticed that a piece of a carrot from her meal had signs of growth. She took it, wrapped it in paper and watered it inside the poorly lit prison. It grew into a small plant, which she gave her daughter Taraneh Taefi, 14, for her birthday. The experience was so emotional that fellow visitors and prisoners burst into tears as Taefi received it. In Alhan Taefi’s letter, she says, "This plant stood as a symbol of you for me. When I was lonely, I would go and cuddle it, talk to it, caress it, and kiss it — I would feel it was you standing before me." 2009-07-29 "While it is vital that there continue to be a spotlight on the treatment of the post-election protesters and dissidents targeted by the regime, it is just as important that the same level of attention be given to those who have suffered a similar fate long before the elections took place... The largest and most persecuted non-Muslim minority in Iran are the Baha’is. At least 30 Baha’is are in prison solely because of their religious identity. Seven Baha’i leaders have been held in the notorious Evin prison for more than a year now on unsubstantiated and baseless charges, two of which carry the death penalty." 2009-07-27 "Michael Reitman, who caught Buddy Guy's performance, sent this photo and writes: Bluesman and seminal Blues guitarist Buddy Guy rocked The Wellmont. Buddy wowed the crowd, and this image was taken, quite literally, while he was roaming the stairs between the mezzanine and the lobby during the show. Traditionally it's part of his act to mingle with the audience, he has a wireless set up on his Stratocaster, so he continually plays The Blues while getting up close and personal."

Edge of my seat ... blues, rock, gospel ... The kind of music that just creeps into your soul. No. Actually, it's the kind of music that HITS your soul with a big axe and forces it's way in; slashing the binds that chain us to the world (or is that slashing the chains that bind us? whatever). That my friends is not violence, but a mercy killing. Being (if only temporarily) detached and severed from the world, so that our souls can climb the ladder upwards ... I'm pretty sure that God has called upon Buddy Guy for that kind of rescue work. This explains why Buddy is the skilled axeman that he is. It's a gift from above. Minuses: When I bought the tickets, the person at the Wellmont Theatre box office said that stage level was standing only, and balcony was seated. I didn't feel like standing for 3 hours, so I got us balcony seats. Then when we got to the show, we found out that stage level WAS seated! I was so friggin pissed at the Wellmont management. People sitting near us, said that the box office told them the same story. Anywho, so Jerry and I get there at 7pm. The front row balcony seats were roped off. So we sat center, but a few rows back. Then at 7:55pm, the security took off the ropes, so we made a run for the front row. We still had to settle for the balcony seats, but there is a happy ending! Highlight of the show: During a cover of an Albert King song, Buddy walked off the stage and disappeared. The only evidence that he did not leave, was that we could still hear him playing his guitar. A minute later he emerged from out of a side exit door. Without skipping a beat, he kept playing his guitar and he walked right through the audience. Moments later, he disappared again in the back of the theatre. This time, he emerged on the balcony, and he walked right over to where Jerry and I were sitting. And for several minutes, Buddy Guy stood and played 3 feet from our seats!!! As he played his guitar, he sang, danced and flirted with some lady whose seat was right next to us. During that whole interlude, the entire audience (about 2000, it was sold out) erupted in ecstasy! What a true showman. What charisma. What passion. And passion and soul are what the blues is all about. Damn right I got the blues! p.s. "God maketh no distinction between the white and the black. If the hearts are pure both are acceptable unto Him. God is no respecter of persons on account of either color or race. All colors are acceptable unto Him" buddy can you spare a damn good link? 2009-07-16 Well, what if a holocaust was happening all over again? Would you take the time to learn about it? Or would you deny it? LEARN........................................KNOW........................................TRUTH 2009-07-05 Wow, what a beautiful song! That last note fading out at the end; it was definitely intentional. Was that symbolic of Jackson's spirit leaving his body? Whatever it was, it brought a tear to my eye. It totally moved me. Very few musicians can evoke that kind of emotion from a song. And very few dancers could evoke so much inspiration as MJ did. The Homing Beacon is truly a fitting tribute to the art and life of Michael Jackson. I hope that you enjoy this song as much as I did. 2009-07-05 2009-07-03 2009-06-28 2009-06-27 The person in the middle of the photograph (the man with the beard) is a painted image of Abdu'l-Baha. To read his writings on unity, world peace, equality and hope, please read more here. 2009-06-22 2009-06-20 2009-06-14 2009-05-31 I wore my homemade Buckethead costume (KFC bucket, white baby face mask, black feathered boa). Okay, Buckethead doesn't wear a boa. But at times, Jimi Hendrix did. And I do believe that Buckethead is the spirit of Hendrix, Marcel Marceau, Harry Houdini, Bruce Lee, Michael Jackson and Colonel Steve Austin, all inside one body (that we are not 100 percent certain, is a human body). Please check out my BUCKETHEAD PHOTO ALBUM! 2009-05-31 Buckethead's show on Saturday, May 30th at B.B. Kings in NYC was so intense, that I spent most of Sunday re-coop-erating. Being at a show of that magnitude, opened all of my chakras, and it had the effect of chanting the Baha'i Long Healing Prayer, for two solid hours. I'm sure that after doing so much serious shredding on his guitar for TWO HOURS, Mister Head had to put his hand in ice to prevent it from melting down. That dude's guitar must have been smoking H-O-T!
